Halsey Explained Why They Left the Grammys Early

The 64th Annual Grammy Awards took place yesterday, and celebrities enjoyed a night of performances and speeches. However, Halsey only made a brief appearance, and has now shared why they made an early exit from the event.

The 27-year-old singer, whose album If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power was nominated for Best Alternative Album, wrote, "Not feeling super well so I left early," in their Instagram Stories after appearing on the red carpet. "Had to see BTS tho 😊 going to get pasta and sleep. Thanks for everything luv u all 🐙." (

While the pop star didn't disclose more details, a day earlier they shared in an Instagram post that they had recently undergone surgery. "The last time I attended the Grammys was 2017 and it was 3 days after I had my first Endometriosis surgery," they wrote in the photo's caption. "I walked the carpet with my stitches still in. As luck would have it, I'm attending tomorrow for the first time in years and I had surgery again (you guessed it) 3 days ago."

The "Without Me" singer has always been candid about their health, especially as it relates to their experience with endometriosis, a condition marked by tissue similar to what's found lining the uterus growing on other internal organs. It can cause pain, fatigue, fertility issues, and more side effects, and it affects about 200 million people worldwide.

Halsey has said that dealing with the condition has been "mentally exhausting and physically painful." In a Twitter post back in 2016, they shared a word of encouragement for fans who are also dealing with endometriosis. "I know how excruciating painful it can be and how discouraging the disease can be," they wrote. "I have managed to live a wild, incredible, and unpredictable life with endo, and I'm here for you." Halsey revealed that they were excited about attending the Grammys, despite feeling somewhat unwell. In their health update on Instagram, they said that although they were still recovering, they were excited to go to the show. "Only posting this to say, if you see me be gentle lol I'm fragile," they wrote. "Fragile but excited."

It's admirable that Halsey decided to listen to their body and prioritize their health, even if it meant missing part of a highly-anticipated event. Here's hoping that the singer was able to get the rest they needed and is feeling better.
