Bob Harper Is Adding Yoga to His Heart-Attack Recovery Plan
The trainer is bouncing back after his scary (and surprising) health scare earlier this year.
Bob Harper has made some major changes to his lifestyle since suffering a heart attack earlier this year. Along with adhering to a strict Mediterranean diet, The Biggest Loser trainer is also branching out when it comes to his workouts.
Harper, who credits CrossFit for helping him get into the best shape of his life, recently took to Instagram and shared a photo of himself hitting up an early morning yoga session. "Woke up early ready for another yoga class," the 51-year-old captioned the post. "Feeling good."
The ancient practice is more than just contortion poses, headstands, and downward dogs-several studies have linked yoga to cardiovascular benefits (perfect for Harper's post-heart attack recovery plan). One study found that people who suffer from atrial fibrillation (or irregular heart beat) experienced lower blood pressure and more regulated heart rates after practicing yoga for 12 weeks, according to a study published in the European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing.
Not to mention yoga has also been shown to help control your blood sugar and relieve stress, both of which can reduce the risk for cardiovascular problems. (That's just the beginning. Here are 30 more reasons we love yoga.)
Thankfully, Harper is beginning to feel much better, and he makes it a point to thank his fans for their constant love and support as get gets back on his feet and in shape.
"Walking to my #cardiacrehab I gotta tell you what I do," the trainer recently said on Instagram. "I keep my phone in front of me and when I get a notification on my IG, it inspires me to work harder so you all are kind of acting as my Coach."
Keep up the positive attitude, Bob. We're all rooting for you!
