David Kirsch's Top 5 Healthy Fall Recipes
David Kirsch's Fall Favorites
As the days get shorter and the weather cools down, it's natural to want to eat heavier, heartier food, says celebrity trainer David Kirsch. Unfortunately, some traditional fall favorites tend to be heavy and loaded with extra fat and calories.
Luckily, the delicious recipes from his latest book, The Ultimate New York Diet, are not only healthy, but they're packed with all the best flavors of the season. So the next time the weather's chilly outside, stay inside and try one of these mouthwatering meals.
Low-Fat Turkey Chili
This is a great dish for a busy schedule or if you don't feel like cooking, Kirsch says. He suggests preparing a big batch at the beginning of the week and then having it readily available for lunch or dinner the rest of the week. "The chili always tastes better the second time around," he says.
Guiltless Barbecue Burger
If you're looking for a healthier alternative to beef but can't quite kick your red-meat habit, Kirsch suggests trying buffalo instead. "Buffalo meat tastes just as delicious as red meat, but it comes much leaner," he says. "Because of its leanness, it also cooks more quickly."
Sesame Chicken Fingers
This easy-to-make dish goes over well at parties, Kirsch says. It’s also great as a light meal served with broccoli.
Turkey Meatballs with Spaghetti Squash Marinara
According to Kirsch, this is the second most popular dish at the Madison Square Club—so you know it's gotta be good! He recommends serving it with cooked greens such as kale or spinach.
Who doesn't love hummus? Kirsch suggests spicing this recipe up by adding a few drops of hot pepper sauce.
