Ana Ortiz may play Betty's naturally fit and gorgeous sister on Ugly Betty, but in real life "keeping it all up takes effort," says Ortiz, 36. These strategies keep both her mind and body in shape:

  • Work out with a (four-legged) best friend
"I take my dog, Fideo, out for a hike in Runyon Canyon three times a week. It's about 45 minutes round-trip with a variation of supersteep hills and flat areas. He's always running ahead, which helps me push myself, especially up the hills."

  • Snack strategically
"I need to eat before a workout. If I exercise in the morning, I'll have a little oatmeal, cereal, or a hard-boiled egg with toast. If I go in the afternoon, I'll eat a turkey sandwich with cheese for lunch."

  • Find a role model
"Vanessa Williams is our guru on the set. She's an amazing woman-kind and inspirational with four kids and a body to die for! She works out every day and eats what she wants, but in moderation. On top of all that, she's easygoing."
