Shape's editorial guidelines Published on February 10, 2020 Share Tweet Pin Email Photo: Scenario PR Katrina Scott and Karena Dawn, the bubbly duo behind Tone It Up, have taken the wellness scene by storm. Since the fitness and lifestyle brand's inception in 2009, Tone It Up has amassed a devoted fan base, including more than 1 million Instagram followers. But with many similar brands competing for visibility in such a saturated space, what makes theirs stand out? It could be the fun and energetic workout plans and protein-packed recipes. Perhaps it's the accessibility of their do-anywhere fitness videos, often filmed outdoors in front of sunny California backdrops, or their down-to-earth personalities that make tough workouts feel more approachable. Whatever it is, it's clearly working. If you've ever watched one of Tone It Up's workout videos, chances are your attention quickly moved to Scott and Dawn's activewear. Though their approaches to fashion differ, they complement each other well. Scott describes her personal style as "sofa chic" (read: cozy), relying on comfy, soft staples in neutral tones, while Dawn defines hers as "street chic" because of her love of street style and "cool, edgy, dark" looks. Whichever style resonates with you, there's no arguing that both of their athleisure collections are something to envy. So, when I got the chance to sit down with the Tone It Up duo, I had to ask about their favorite brands and where they shop to assemble such fashion-forward gym-ready looks. Their go-to retailers for workout apparel are Carbon38 and Bandier because they "have everything," said Dawn. On Carbon38's site, in particular, the girls can shop a ton of their favorite brands—which include Avocado, Beach Riot, and Alo Yoga—all in one place. While many fitness pros of their caliber would take advantage of pricier designer picks, Scott and Dawn's outfit choices are as relatable as their personalities. They gushed over Adidas' new collaboration with Beyonce's Ivy Park (same), chatted about how cute and cozy Free People's Movement line is, and debated the best no-show underwear for workouts (the answer: Victoria's Secret's seamless thong). From colorful leggings and strappy sports bras to trendy sneakers and beyond, their looks offer serious style inspiration both in and out of the gym. Here, check out their all-time favorite picks for workouts, lounging, and everything in between, along with some of their beauty and travel must-haves too.
