"I was introduced to CrossFit through BTB Fitness by various friends who all swear by the same claim: It’s freakin' awesome and it works! I have to admit, I was a little reluctant to jump on the bandwagon since the only free weight I’d ever lifted was a dumbbell and I certainly couldn’t do a pull up, much less a hundred. I also fell into that bucket of people who believed that women who lift heavy weights magically turn into bulky she-men. Of course, I couldn’t have been more wrong and now have added it to my list of exaggerations I was taught growing up as a ballet dancer.
It wasn’t until June 2010 that I finally decided to see what all the hype was about. I think it was a combination of hearing yet another friend rave about the results they were getting from CrossFit at BTB and my boyfriend's sister introducing me to the term “skinny fat," that ultimately got me to sign up for the introductory course called Dynamics. And just like that, it sunk in! Yes, I’d lost all 30 pounds of my weight from being pregnant and was wearing a size four, but I was definitely not in good shape. I was occasionally running, working out on machines and taking a yoga class here and there, but wasn't doing anything consistent. Needless to say, I struggled the first week of Dynamics and started love-hating squats but at the end of the course, I’d found a fitness program that really challenged and motivated me. Every time I leave the gym now, I feel like I’ve achieved something. Today I got so close to my first pull up that I bruised my chin and it somehow felt wonderful. Over the past two months, I’ve noticed a huge difference in my muscle tone, strength and overall energy levels. I’ve also noticed practical changes. For example, I can now run uphill pushing a jogging stroller without stopping. My son absolutely loves it!
So, if you’re still wondering what the heck’s in the kool-aid, it’s this simple: We have incredible trainers who know how to scale and push us to achieve what we’d never do on our own. We get total body workouts that offer a completely new challenge every time and are supported by an amazing culture where we cheer each other on to conquer our next feat. I can’t think of better way to describe it than it’s freakin' awesome and it works!"

"I became involved in CrossFit because I really wanted to take my physical conditioning to the next level, considering that I'm now in my 30s. I have always been very consistent with my workouts, but over the past couple years, felt I had hit a plateau. CrossFit has taught me that I wasn't in nearly as good of shape as I thought. It also forced me to concentrate on total body fitness rather than traditional isolated movements. After only a month, I'm already addicted to the way I feel and to the positive changes to my body, which is what motivates me to crawl out of bed at 5:30 every morning."

"I started CrossFit to challenge my body in new ways. I have always been active —I've done yoga, weight training with a personal trainer and running, all of which helped me to maintain a satisfactory body weight for the past 7 to 8 years. After I turned 31, I decided I wanted to take my body to a different level by focusing on total body health rather than emphasizing my weight and how I look. I played a lot of sports in high school and throughout my childhood and wanted to get the confidence and strength back to be able to do that again. I have attended four CrossFit sessions and have already been so sore in spots in my body I didn't know could be sore. Did you know there are great big muscles in your rib cage?
Just yesterday we started our CrossFit session warming up by playing a good game of old school dodge ball with the CrossFit kids that ranged from 4 to 8 years old. You can imagine my surprise, as this is something I haven't done in a long time. It goes without saying the little ones whooped all the adults, but it was great fun to experience a good ole' fashioned competitive workout again. I already feel increased energy and more overall confidence in myself. This confidence began when I surprisingly didn't take a nose dive jumping up on top of a box (aka box squats — lots of fun). Who knew I could jump up on top of a box and land on my own two feet?
I am excited for the months to come and entering each birthday with more strength, endurance and better overall cardiovascular health. My goal is to be 90 years old, take no medications but a multivitamin, and have perfect silver/ white hair, be able to get around without assistance and enjoy time with my family.
