Kayla Itsines, the Australian personal trainer known best for her killer Instagram-ready workouts, has become a hero to many women, as much for her bubbly positivity as for her ultra-cut abs. (Check out her Exclusive HIIT Workout.) After dominating social media, Itsines and her boyfriend decided to take her workout and diet plans to the next level by creating the Bikini Body Guide and a company, Bikini Body Training, from which to sell it and the accompanying app. But while she's achieving all her dreams, she does have one regret about her success.
"Do I regret calling my guides Bikini Body? My answer is yes," she told Bloomberg. "That's why when I released the app, I called it Sweat With Kayla. Sweat is so empowering. I love that."
In recent years, women have risen up to reclaim the term 'bikini body'—taking it from an exclusionary phrase that only allows lithe models the privilege of wearing a two-piece on the beach to an inclusionary one that says every body is a bikini body and encourages women to wear whatever suit makes them feel comfortable and happy. While the reference to the barely-there swimsuit may have caught the internet's attention, Itsines doesn't want women to get caught up on looking like a particular version of fit or even exactly like Itsines herself; she'd rather they focus on becoming their best, individual selves.
So even though the Bikini Body Guide is what made her famous, she's hoping now to grow beyond that by focusing more on the inspirational aspects of fitness rather than the aspirational ones. And her blend of sweat and positivity is working: Her app eclipsed both Nike and Under Armour's apps in both downloads and rave reviews. We can't wait to see what she does next.
