This New Peloton Treadmill Could Change the Way You Look at Indoor Running Forever

Treadmills are pretty polarizing machines. Either you love that feeling of crushing a few miles on the hamster wheel, maybe with The Real Housewives entertaining your every stride, or you refer to it as the "dreadmill." The cycling studio Peloton is trying to move you out of that last camp with the launch of Peloton Tread, an immersive treadmill debuting this week at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. If Peloton sounds familiar, that's because the tech company made waves in early 2014 by offering live spin sessions online that any subscriber in the world could join and stream on their own custom-designed Peloton Bike (it retails for $1,995). The Peloton Tread, priced at $3,995, will bring that same studio experience home for running fanatics. At the helm: the brand's VP of fitness programming Robin Arzon and master instructor Rebecca Kennedy, teaching a range of classes like Total Body (circuit and boot-camp-style classes both on and off the treadmill) and Run, which is great for newbies and marathon runners alike. The brand will also offer Walk, a class geared at building endurance and promoting low-impact exercise.

"Whether you want a mellow 10-minute walking class, an intense 60-minute boot-camp class, or anything in between, the Peloton Tread is perfect for you," John Foley, founder and CEO of Peloton, said in a press release. "Just like the Peloton Bike, the Peloton Tread is now the best synthesis of hardware, software, and class content in the category. It allows members of all ages and fitness levels to take effective, fun, and motivating circuit, running, and strength workouts on their schedules and in their homes."

Now, let's talk about looks. To say that the machine is gorgeous is an understatement. Complete with 59 individuals shock-absorbing slats, a massive 32-inch HD touchscreen, soundbar, and speed and incline nobs—you may as well call it the Cadillac of treadmills.

For someone who dreads spending time running indoors, the Tread could be a total game-changer. Running alone can be isolating. Running as part of a community without leaving the comfort of your own home? Different thing. Suddenly, you've got A-class coaching at your fingertips, and virtual friends to keep you motivated (the brand has seen wild success with their Facebook community of riders). Plus, the Peloton Bike is in many Westin hotels. If the Tread follows suit, consumers can reap the benefits of boutique classes while traveling anywhere in the world.

You can reserve a Peloton Tread starting today online on a first-come-first-serve basis with a deposit of $250. Not into the idea of dropping the almost $4,000 all at once? The brand is offering payment plans of $110/month to existing members, or $149/month for new members over 39 months, with 0 percent APR. That price includes membership, the machine, shipping, and installation.
