Today's blogger: Marissa Stephenson, Shape's associate fitness editor

One of my favorite things about being a fitness editor is getting sneak peeks at workout wear. (Nearly every athletic brand hosts spring and fall "showrooms," where editors can check out the highlights from their upcoming lines.) I always pay close attention to the apparel I use the most-items for running, yoga, swimming, and hiking-so that I can give subtle holiday shopping hints to friends and family. These four pieces are at the top of my wish list (Ahem, are you reading this, Mom?):

Adidas Marathon 10 shorts ($28; shopadidas.com) I love these bright (they come in six colors), comfy running shorts. And all of the proceeds go to Active Against Cancer, a nonprofit that promotes physical activity as a way to prevent the disease.

Athleta Seamless Anjali cami ($54; athleta.com) This top would be perfect to wear to the new Bikram yoga studio my boyfriend and I joined; it's loose and made of moisture-wicking fabric to keep you cool, and it will stay in place during down dog.

Carve Vancouver Tankini and St. Barth Bottom ($48 and $38;carvedesigns.com) I've been looking for a cute won't-slip suit that I can swim and dive in (I'm always paranoid about wardrobe malfunctions), and this full-coverage tank and bottom fits the bill.

Nau Women's Shroud of Purrin hoody ($290; nau.com) I saw this lightweight wind- and waterproof jacket at the opening of a Nau store in New York City, and I'm coveting it for my spring hiking trips. It has a faux-fur polyester fleece lining for extra warmth, it's 100-percent recycled and recyclable, and I dig its unique color.
