For a lot of people, taking a vacation means taking a break from working out, too. But as a runner, I can't wait to tie on my sneaks in a new city. Different sights to distract me as I chug through the miles? Yes, please!

My boyfriend and I recently visited an active couples' paradise: San Francisco. We knew admiring the Golden Gate Bridge from afar would be nice, but as two marathoners, we wanted to hoof it across the landmark ourselves.

The 10-mile trek went by as easily as any jaunt in the park as we snapped pics of the architectural icon from every angle and gasped at the breathtaking views of the city, Alcatraz, and lush Marin County on the other side. It wasn't an intense run-the 3.4 miles spent back and forth on the bridge involved a lot of stops to walk behind other tourists or dodge bicyclists-but the sheer beauty (and awesomeness) got my heart pounding in another way.
