At Shape, we believe you shouldn't have to go to a gym to work out. That's why every Target Training exercise we feature includes a home version, too. While thinking up those variations, I've used everything from a dictionary to a broom to replace gym tools, which is why I cracked up when I saw this mock infomercial from GE about the 'Strong as Steel' workout strong-as-steel.com. All the exercises use kitchen appliances (think: doing a reverse fly while opening a dual-door refrigerator or a squat while holding the oven door). The video is meant for laughs, but it does bring up a good point: You can use objects you already own to help you stay fit--and it's fun to get creative with them. Today, try doing your usual strength moves while standing on a pillow or couch cushion (the wobbly surface works like a balance disc, making your muscles work harder.)
