In this month's Shape, Ellen DeGeneres told us she went on a "sugar fast" to reboot her body (check out my article about how to start your own here).

If you're game, here are three quickie recipes I created that meet my sweet treat formula: Fruit + Protein = a yummy, good-for-you, blood sugar stabilizing and satisfying treat. Each one is clean, easy and under 200 calories!

Blueberry Vanilla Smoothie

6 oz organic skim milk or organic plain soy milk

1 cup frozen unsweetened blueberries (the only ingredient should be blueberries)

1 fresh vanilla bean (slice bean lengthwise, scrape "filling" inside and add to smoothie) or 1 tsp pure vanilla extract

Add ingredients to blender, whip and enjoy!

Mango Pudding

Half cup organic silken tofu

Flesh from one smallish fresh mango

1/8 tsp cardamom

Add ingredients to blender. Whip until smooth. Transfer to bowl and chill.

Spicy Strawberry Celebration

1 cup sliced fresh strawberries

1/4 tsp cinnamon

3-4 fresh mint leaves

2 Tbsp sliced almonds

Place sliced strawberries in a bowl, sprinkle with nutmeg and lightly mash. Add mint, garnish with almonds and serve.

If you try any of these, please let me know what you think. Or, share your own naturally sweet substitutions (don't forget the protein).
