If you just looove to slather hot sauce over every meal (and in your Bloody Mary), we've got good news for you: Tabasco has announced its plans to sizzle up your taste buds this summer with two limited-edition hot sauces dubbed Scorpion and Roasted Red Pepper. The Scorpion is a mixture of traditional Tabasco, pineapple, guava, and scorpion peppers—the second hottest peppers in the world, according to the Los Angeles Times. Their addition makes the Scorpion almost 20 times hotter than the original Tabasco sauce we all keep in our refrigerator door.
For all the hot sauce novices out there, let's put that into perspective. Tabasco's Original Red is between 2,500 and 5,000 Scoville units (the units used to measure spice). Scorpion sauce, on the other hand, clocks in at about 50,000 Scoville units. So you better think twice before giving it a try.
But if you're up for a challenge, you might be pleasantly surprised. Scorpion's other ingredients—like pineapple and guava—make it an excellent combination of sweet and heat.
If setting your mouth on fire isn't up your alley, the Roasted Red Pepper is a much milder option featuring a blend of slow-roasted tabasco peppers, garlic, onions, basil, and balsamic vinegar.
The new sauces will be available exclusively online starting today, but for a limited time only (Scorpion is already sold out).
