Coffee In a Cone Could Be the New Must-Have Fall Drink

Fall is officially here, meaning it's time to mourn the dozens of daily mouthwatering #icecream Insta's filling up your feed. (Like these ice cream sandwiches.) But before you get too sad about the end of your favorite summer treat, just wait because there's a new cone in town: meet coffee in a cone, which may just be the most Instagrammable coffee ever.

The caffeinated cone started in Johannesburg, South Africa earlier this year, according to a report by CNN, when barista extraordinaire Dayne Levinrad had a brilliant idea: If people love eating (and Instagramming) coffee, chocolate, and ice cream, why not combine them into one highly photogenic treat? Thus the #coffeeinacone craze was born, and it's giving latte art a run for its money.

Despite the simple name, these treats aren't easy to pull off. Levinrad had to perfect the perfect chocolate coating for the cone to keep the whole thing from leaking all over your morning commute. He ended up with a patented (yes, he owns the patent to the coffee cone) combination of four different chocolate coatings for the cone. Even with the special formula, you only have about 10 minutes to drink a coffee cone before it melts. (Not like it takes you much longer to drink you venti ice coffee anyway, right?)

Luckily, thanks largely to the social media success, you don't have to start perfecting melted chocolate coatings or travel to South Africa to get your hands on your own; baristas in LA are coming up with their own versions and the trend is spreading. The best part is, the treat is totally versatile—coffee cones can be with matcha, espresso, cappuccinos and even iced coffee. We think it's safe to say ice cream cones are so last summer.
