In case you haven't heard, keto is the new paleo. (Confused? Here's everything you need to know about the keto diet.) People are going crazy over this low-carb, high-fat diet—and for good reason. For one, you get to eat a ton a peanut butter and avocado. Second, it can score you some serious results. Just look at this Shape editor who tried it for two weeks, and lost more weight than she expected she would. All-star trainer and fitness pro Jen Widerstrom gave it a try recently, too.
Another perk of adopting the keto diet? You have an excuse to whip up some indulgent-as-hell a.m. beverages. Jen, specifically, said she'll never go back to those high-sugar flavor pumps again. "Now, I drink my coffee black," she says. "Or I whip up a morning coffee drink with protein, collagen, and cacao butter, and it's better than Starbucks."
Sound delish? You can steal her coffee recipe, below, and give it a try yourself. Just be warned that drinking super-high-fat coffee isn't for everyone. (Experts say you should be careful of saturated fat.) If you're keto, however, you're eating lots of fat instead of carbs to keep your body in ketosis.
Looking for a non-coffee beverage that fits the keto life? Try one of these low-carb, keto-approved drinks instead.
Jen Widerstrom's Keto Coffee Recipe

- 1 tablespoon cacao butter
- 3/4 scoop vanilla protein (Jen uses her IDLife vanilla shake)
- 1 scoop of collagen peptides (Jen uses Vital Proteins)
- Pour coffee into a blender.
- Add the remaining ingredients, and blend until well-mixed.
