The Kale and Gin Cocktail Recipe for Your Best Weekend Ever
This delicious, healthy cocktail recipe tastes like the farmers market but has a secret ingredient—alcohol.
Weekends are meant for errands (and workouts, right?), so this Saturday or Sunday we want you to wake up, stretch (maybe with these 8 Wake-Up-Your-Body Moves Anyone Can Do In the Morning), head to your regular restorative yoga class, and hit up the farmers market before you get home. (Yes, it's still warm enough for your local farmers market, but if it's closed up shop early this season, the grocery store will do.)
Now, on top of your staple grocery list (eggs, almond milk, apples, etc.), pick up some kale, a few limes and oh, IDK, some gin, while you're at it. Why? Because we're mixing up an incredible healthy cocktail recipe (crafted by bartender James Palumbo of Belle Shoals Bar in Brooklyn, NY, who also knows how to make a boozy banana smoothie) that's just screaming to be part of any casual day drinking you have planned this weekend.
Just looking at the finished product, all green and glorious with a kale leaf hanging out, you might mistake this drink for a DIY pressed green juice, but you're in on the secret. That secret being that there's just the right amount of gin that glass that lets you enjoy your greens and your booze without any sign of guilt. After all, it's the weekend-do you, girl!
Morning Market Cocktail
1.5 oz. Spring 44 gin
0.5 oz. Frangelico
0.75 oz. lime juice
0.25 oz. pure cane syrup
0.25 oz. kale puree
Kale leaf and ground black pepper for garnish
- Juice the limes and puree the kale in a juicer or blender on high until smooth, and then set aside.
- Combine all ingredients in a shaker.
- Add ice and shake vigorously.
- Strain over a rocks glass filled with ice.
- Garnish with a leaf of kale and cracked pepper.
