Want to trim hundreds of calories from your holiday meals? Just revamp your sidedishes. "You can make vegetables taste amazing without adding globs of butter, cream, or marshmallows," says cookbook author Mollie Katzen. Case in point: Candied sweet potatoes can have 300 calories per cup; swap them for the Delightfully Spiced Carrots here and you'll get a similar flavor experience for just 84 calories. Or serve BraisedBrussels Sprouts in Mustard Sauce in place of a green bean casserole with crispy onions and you'll save 155 calories. In fact, all five of these recipes are delicious enough that you'll want to go back for seconds, but healthy enough that if you do, you'll still be able to zip up your jeans come New Year's Day.
