These Tuna Lettuce Wraps Are Basically Handheld Poke Bowls
It's no surprise the whole poke trend took off. The Hawaiian raw fish salad checks all the boxes: nutritionally balanced, easy on the eyes, and tasty AF. The poke bowl has gained the most popularity, since of course bowls make everything trendier (smoothies, burritos). But if you're sick of seeing a billion bowls on your Instagram feed, we have the perfect variation: spicy tuna poke lettuce wraps, courtesy of Bev Weidner of Bev Cooks. If you're late to the poke party because you're hesitant to try raw fish, here's why you should reconsider: The dish can be a good gateway since the fish is marinated and served with other ingredients that offset the texture and taste of the fish. For this recipe, chunks of tuna are soaked in a spicy marinade before the wraps are assembled. That means it won't taste fishy like a can of tuna-just be sure to spring for a high grade of tuna.
These wraps have all the nutritional perks of poke bowls with an added bonus of vitamin A thanks to the lettuce. They're a great source of healthy fats, since tuna is high in omega-3 fatty acids and avocados are high in monounsaturated fats. Plus the cucumbers are extra hydrating and contain vitamins B and C. So next time you're considering poke, skip the bowl and give these a try instead.
