Get Skinny While You Shop – Part 1
I don't know about you but I haven't even started my holiday shopping. I'm tempted to get it all done online but there's just something magical about strolling through decked out departments stores and seeing kids wait in line to sit on Santa's lap. Unfortunately we all know that malls can be a nutritional minefields (one word: Cinnabon!). And a day's worth of shopping can easily lead to a night of overeating. So, I decided to dedicate this week's posts to svelte holiday shopping strategies. I'll share a few tips each day. Some are no brainer tried sand true tactics, but it never hurts to remind yourself to actually follow them!
Don't wait too long to eat. Set your cell phone or watch to go off every 4-5 hours to remind you to stop and eat something. Getting too hungry will increase your risk of overeating later.
Snack smart. Mall snacks are more than tie-overs to your next meal. Most have close to as many calories (or more) than a lunch or dinner should provide. For example: one original style soft pretzel provides over 350 calories; one classic cinnamon bun has over 800 calories; a half cup scoop serving of premium ice cream provides about 300 calories. Bring your own healthy snacks instead (like almonds and a mini banana or a Larabar) or split a higher calorie snack with a shopping buddy. It's not as fun but you'll save money by bringing your own snacks.
Come back tomorrow for how to prevent innocently racking up a whopping 700 calories quenching your thirst.
Did you know that the song Frosty the Snowman was written in 1950. Wow, 60 years ago - talk about staying power!
