It's no surprise that as a beauty editor, I'm privy to literally hundreds of beauty products — from haircare to skincare to my beloved beauty and makeup products. One glance in my purse or bathroom cabinet would reveal numerous lip products of every shade and function, from lip glosses that claim to hydrate and plump my lips to the richest, berry-colored matte liquid lipsticks that claim to stay in place through several meals.

While those products are great (and most lived up to the hype), it sparked a new obsession with lip products that restored and nourished my lips after matte-lipped date nights and girl's nights out. (FYI, matte lipsticks can be super drying, and applying them on dry, cracked lips will make them appear streaky and patchy and further highlight the chapped texture of your lips.) One waltz through Sephora last year introduced me to a staple lip product that I've continued to repurchase since — the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, which literally brought my lips back to life overnight.

Laniege Lip Sleeping Mask Key Features

  • How I tested: I've used this lip mask daily, both day and night, for over a year.
  • Perfect for: Anyone whose lips are chapped, dry, or peeling and need some extra hydration.
  • What you’ll love: This lip mask isn't sticky or greasy, and a little goes a long way. It comes with a mini spatula to scoop the product out of the jar and apply to your lips, without having to dig your fingers in the jar. While there's no tingle with this lip mask, it literally feels like a hydrating hug on your lips the moment you apply it.
  • Keep in mind: The Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is a lip mask, not a balm; it's meant to be used as an overnight lip treatment, and therefore, is not compact enough fit in pants pockets or small purses. It comes in five different shades, but there are no significant formula differences aside from the color and scent of the product.
  • Key ingredients: It's packed with coconut oil, shea butter, and murumuru seed butter to add moisture and help nourish dry cracked lips.

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask Review

One of my favorite things about the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is its texture; its thick and velvety coating covers my lips and immediately goes to work to make them feel nourished. I love that it's not super sticky or greasy like many other lip masks I've tried. Even though the main purpose of this product is for use as an overnight lip treatment, it doesn't rub off or stain my pillowcases at night. After a couple uses as an overnight mask and being floored with the result, I've honestly switched to using it both day and night and any time my lips feel like they need some intense hydration. Even with daily applications, the 20-ounce jar lasts for more than six months, making it well worth the money.

The lip mask is packed with hydrating ingredients like coconut oil, shea butter, and murumuru seed butter that not only help give it a smooth, silky texture, but also deposit intense moisture into my lips. The butters in this formula aid in the long-lasting moisture it packs into my lips, as I can apply this in the morning and still have glistening, hydrated lips by lunch and early afternoon, something unheard of for even the best lip balms I've tried.

It also contains an exclusive Berry Fruit Complex that claims to be "rich in antioxidants to help reveal smooth and supple looking lips," as well as vitamin C to help keep lips protected from environmental elements. The lip mask certainly lives up to the hype, as I've used it to keep my lips protected through the harshest seasons in New York City, from the hot, humid summers to the cold, frigid winters, and my lips have stayed chap-free through it all.

Not only is it key for keeping my lips from peeling or drying out, but it also helps to create the most perfect base for applying my favorite lipsticks and lip tints. Just like with any full-face makeup look, one of the most important steps is creating a flawless base, which often starts with skincare. To create lip looks that even the most celebrated makeup artist would envy, the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask makes my lips appear soft, moisturized, and plump. My lip liners, matte lipsticks, and glosses literally glide across my lips with ease after using this lip mask, and it's the best remedy for restoring my lips after heavy makeup days.

This product is literally the secret to my pillowy soft, supple lips, and I refuse to not have a jar in my product stash at all times.
