Celebrate National Doughnut Day Without Breaking the Calorie Bank
You probably didn't think we'd be one to celebrate something like National Doughnut Day (yes, it's a real thing!), but we are! National Doughnut Day actually began as a fundraiser for the Salvation Army in 1938 and is held annually on the first Friday in June in honor of female volunteers who served - you guessed it - doughnuts to World War I soldiers.
These days the holiday is celebrated with free doughnuts being given away at a number of shops across the country, including local mom-and-pop shops, Dunkin Donuts (when you purchase a beverage) and Krispy Kreme.
Sure, doughnuts are a splurge, but if you know what to order, you can save yourself some calories without missing any of the National-Doughnut-Day-celebration fun. Be sure to check out the lowest-calorie doughnut options at popular doughnut places across the country here.
Happy National Doughnut Day!
