Want To Stress Less? Try Yoga, Study Says

You know that great feeling that comes over you after a really good yoga class? That feeling of being so calm and relaxed? Well, researchers have been studying the benefits of yoga and turns out, those good feelings do a lot for your everyday life and your health.

According to a new study published in the Journal of Pain Research, researchers found that Hatha yoga has the power to boost stress-busting hormones and reduce pain. Researchers specifically looked at reported chronic pain of women with fibromyalgia. The women did 75 minutes of hatha yoga twice a week over the course of eight weeks.

And what they found was pretty amazing. The yoga helped the woman relax and actually decreased the activity of the sympathetic nervous system, which lowers heart rate and increases breath volume, thereby reducing the stress mechanisms in the body. The study participants also reported significant decreases in pain, increases in mindfulness and generally worried less about their illness.
