3 Cool Winter Hairstyles

The wintry skies may be drab and dull, but that doesn't mean your hair needs to be lackluster, too. Just in time for the holiday season, we've got three stylish 'dos anyone can pull off created by Marc Harris, founder and lead stylist of Boston's Salon Marc Harris.

Try this if your hair's long and wavy.

Get the look in 4 simple steps:

  1. Lightly spritz volumizing spray onto wet hair. Then turn on hot rollers so they heat up while you blow-dry your hair as usual.
  2. Create a side part and set two-inch-wide sections of hair in rollers. Make sure rollers are placed vertically in hair rather than horizontally, so they form ringlets.
  3. Let hair set 10 minutes before removing hot rollers and gently shaking out curls with fingers.
  4. Pin up curls all around head and secure with bobby pins. Let wisps fall around your face to soften the look.

Try this if your hair's long and fine.

Get the look in 5 simple steps:

  1. Dry your hair on low-speed, high-heat until slightly damp. Then generously spritz on thickening spray. Turn on your curling iron so it begins to heat up.
  2. As you blow-dry your hair, wrap sections around a large round brush.
  3. Once dry, twist large portions of hair with the iron, alternating the direction you curl so that waves face different directions.
  4. Using your fingers, pull out most of the curl from your scalp to mid-shaft.
  5. Create a severe side part above arc of left brow; sweep bangs across forehead and secure with bobby pin; spray hair lightly with strong hold hair spray.

Get the look in 5 simple steps:

  1. Towel dry hair and apply smoothing serum; turn on flat iron.
  2. Part hair on preferred side.
  3. Take small sections of hair along the part and tightly braid to back of head. Braid a second small section from your hairline to behind your ear.
  4. Blow-dry hair using a metal round brush with nylon bristles; mist mane with medium-hold hairspray.
  5. Finish by wrapping wide sections of hair around a flat iron to create loose waves. Apply a small amount of smoothing serum to your palms and run your hands through your hair for long-lasting shine.
