Honey and cinnamon are a natural bacteria-fighting duo.

If all of your face masks come from a packet or a pot, there are two main reasons you should start incorporating the occasional DIY variety. One, you can pick and choose what goes into the mask based on your skin type and goals. If you've never gone down the DIY rabbit hole, you might be surprised by just how many foods are commonly used in skin care. Evidence: these pumpkin beauty products. Oh and, two, you can end up with a mask that smells more like a dessert batter than like a flowery fragrance. (P.S. Here's how to make the best DIY mask for your skin type.)

If you have acne-prone skin, a homemade mask with cinnamon, eggs, and honey is a win on both counts. It can help fight off acne with three ingredients that are probably already sitting in your pantry, and as a bonus, it happens to smell like a fall baked good. (Yes, everyone is shamelessly entering fall mode in August. See this pumpkin spice exfoliating face mask.)

Cinnamon and honey both have antibacterial properties, so they're prime acne-fighting ingredients perfect for making your own face mask. What's more, one study suggested that using the two in combination is more effective in fighting two strains of acne-causing bacteria than using only one or the other. Egg whites have a temporary tightening effect on skin, too, which is why you've been seeing all those egg beauty products popping up. The three ingredients together will leave your skin feeling fresh. (Next Up: This 3-Ingredient Peppermint Face Mask Will Clear Your Skin and Boost Your Mood)
