You've probably heard it time and again: Sunscreen is the most important part of any skin-care routine. Unfortunately, though, finding the right face sunscreen isn't always easy. There are a lot of factors to consider (e.g. skin type, skin concerns)and plenty of formulas have chalky, hard-to-blend consistencies and leave behind a white cast. With so many options on the market, figuring out the best SPF for you and your skin can require a bit of trial and error.

As a beauty writer, I've been lucky enough to try my fair share of sunscreens but few have checked all of my boxes — that was until I found Coola Dew Good Illuminating Serum Sunscreen (Buy it, $46, sephora.com). The formula is not only lightweight, easy-to-blend, and moisturizing but it also gives my skin a healthy-looking glow.

The Coola face sunscreen is an SPF 30 chemical sunscreen with avobenzone, octisalate, and octocrylene as the active ingredients that keeps my skin safe from the sun without leaving me looking like Casper. In addition to its broad-spectrum protection (i.e. ability to shield from UVA and UVB rays), it also protects against blue light, pollution, and other environmental aggressors with the help of antioxidants. ICYDK, blue light is a type of light that you're mainly exposed to from the sun and tech screens. Similar to UV radiation, blue light may create free radical damage, which can cause discoloration, premature signs of aging, and overall stressed skin, as Mona Gohara, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist and associate clinical professor at the Yale School of Medicine previously told Shape. (

What's more, the Coola sunscreen contains Lactobacillus ferment, a probiotic ingredient derived from Lactobacillus bacteria. Topical products with probiotics can calm your skin and encourage good bacteria to flourish, which can reduce inflammation and protect against acne-causing bacteria, Michelle Henry, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist and founder of Skin & Aesthetic Surgery of Manhattan, previously told Shape.

The first time I used the Coola sunscreen, I was surprised by the consistency. It actually has the look and feel of a lightweight moisturizer instead of that liquid, gel texture that's often associated with serums. As I applied the creamy formula onto my skin, which has a delicious beachy scent BTW, I was impressed by how seamlessly it melted into my complexion without requiring any aggressive or extended blending. (

It also left my skin feeling moisturized and comfortable, allowing me to skip my daytime moisturizer. I can appreciate a product that helps me cut down on the steps in my skin-care routine since it saves me time and reduces the chance of pilling (i.e. those little balls of residue that form when your skin-care products don't mix well). Finally, and perhaps my favorite part of all, Coola's SPF serum gave my skin a healthy-looking radiance as though it was sun-kissed. (In reality, it was just the opposite.)

If you're in the market for a sunscreen or moisturizer that offers convenience and results, look no further than the Coola Dew Good Illuminating Serum Sunscreen. The moisturizer-meets-highlighter-meets-sunscreen is worth every penny.
