Do damage control

Have a shoe repair expert affix a thin half sole to higher-quality shoes to prevent wear and tear. Also apply a weatherproofing spray to leather, suede, or fabric before you take them outside.

Come clean

Use a damp cloth to remove surface dirt and scruffs from leather shoes. Then carefully spread a thin layer of a leather cream as a protective barrier. Take suede and satin shoes to an expert.

Use cedar shoe trees

These help footwear retain its shape and absorb moisture, preserving the leather and staving off odor.
