Supergoop Just Launched the First SPF Eyeshadow—and TBH This Is a Brilliant Idea
It's the sunscreen brand's first foray into makeup.
Even when you *think* you're being diligent about your SPF application, there are some tricky areas that are easy to neglect (burnt hands and hairline anyone?!). But there's one area that you likely don't even have on your radar: Your eyelids. And as we reported last summer, while eyelid cancer is rare (it accounts for just 10 percent of all facial skin cancers) it can be deadly if left ignored, according to derms. Not to mention the fact that the delicate skin around the eyes is one of the first places to show aging.
That's why Supergoop decided to launch Shimmershade SPF 30 (Buy It, $24, nordstrom.com), the first eyeshadow made with SPF.
It's also the popular sunscreen brand's first foray into color makeup-but considering the cult-following around their other innovative makeup products, like their Glow Stick Sunscreen (a glow-boosting dry oil stick that also serves as a highlighter) and 100% Mineral Invincible Setting Powder (an SPF 45 powder that mattifies shine) we have a feeling this launch will be no different.
What makes these shadows so special is that they can be easily swapped into your summer beauty routine. The long-wearing cream formula glides onto eyelids seamlessly without creasing, flaking, or fading-so you don't have to make any sacrifices with swapping out your usual shadow. As the name suggests, Shimmershade comes in four shimmery golden-neutral shades that can be worn solo or as a base for other shadows. They're also free of parabens, synthetic fragrance, or oxybenzone, making them a great choice for anyone switching over to a clean beauty routine.
In addition to the natural, mineral SPF protection, the shadows also contain good-for-skin ingredients including a blend of rose to help fight free radical damage, chamomile to soothe the eye area, and vitamin E-rich sunflower to add moisture. Bottom line: Replacing your usual summer shadow with this skin-protecting version is a no-brainer.
