But while you may know the difference between BHA and AHA and the right way to use hyaluronic acid, one big skincare question still stumps even the most in-the-know skin-care girlies; how do you reapply SPF over makeup? Of course you use your favorite sun protectant every morning before putting on any kind of makeup coverage, but rubbing the same cream sunscreen over the beautiful look you created just hours before would lead to a messy situation. Luckily, TikTokers have tried hundreds of hacks and methods and have come up with three genius solutions to this dilemma. "If you're like me and hate reapplying sunscreen or you have makeup on, here are a few ways to make it easier," creator @kylei.ann began in a video where they outlined the three most-loved ways of putting sunscreen over makeup: sticks, mists, and powders. And while the #skintok community hasn't agreed on the exact ranking, each of these products allows users to protect their skin from UV rays with minimal smudge. Supergoop! Glow Stick SPF 50, $25 Shiseido Clear Sunscreen Stick SPF 50+, $29 La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra-Light Sunscreen Spray SPF 50, $28 Kate Somerville UncompliKated SPF 50 Makeup Setting Spray, $44 Supergoop (Re)setting 100 Percent Mineral Powder SPF 35, $30 Ilia Radiant Translucent Powder SPF 20, $34 SPF Sticks "[Sunsticks] are super lightweight with a glossy finish and a great option for those dealing with acne," noted TikTok-famous dermatologist, @beamaxinemd. Most sunsticks are chemical-based, translucent, and have a thin, gel-like texture. "All sunscreen sticks are going to move your makeup a little bit," admitted user @uglyducklingskincare. However, the shopper-loved picks below promise a no-fuss, dewy glow that sits right on top of foundation. Supergoop! Glow Stick SPF 50 Supergoop BUY IT, $25 Supergoop is the current GOAT when it comes to making white cast-free SPF products, and the Glow Stick is no exception. "It glides smoothly on your skin without any tugging," wrote @mygentleskin in a post from February, adding that it leaves their skin with a "dewy finish without looking greasy." This easily portable sunscreen also contains skin-hydrating emollients like sunflower seed oil. Shiseido Clear Sunscreen Stick SPF 50+ Ulta BUY IT, $29 In close competition with Supergoop! Glow Stick (according to creators), this SPF stick from Shiseido is "a game changer" for white cast-free reapplication, according to @xkymanix. The reef-friendly formula is completely sheer and includes sun damage-fighting ingredients like soy and licorice extract. "This is literally the best sunscreen stick I have ever tried, and I have tried all of them," said @uglyducklingskincare. "The [makeup] transfer is way less than the transfer of the other products I've tried." SPF Mists If the idea of touching anything to your freshly made-up face makes you nervous, SPF mists are another great choice for putting sunscreen over makeup. "It feels like a setting mist; it's very refreshing," noted @alenaavictoriaa, who explains that for them, the answer to reapplication is "finding a very lightweight SPF mist," and so many other creators agree. La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra-Light Sunscreen Spray SPF 50 Ulta BUY IT, $28 In a viral video, @kunyabalunya said this mist goes "seamlessly over make up." According to the brand, this alcohol- and paraben-free sunscreen was "rigorously tested" for people with sensitive skin and is water-resistant for over an hour, making it an ideal pick for the beach. Plus, the formula is rich in antioxidants, which protect the skin from UV rays, air pollution, and free radicals. Kate Somerville UncompliKated SPF 50 Makeup Setting Spray Ulta BUY IT, $44 "Once I've done my makeup, I pop open this bad boy, give it a shake, and spray, and you wouldn't even tell," explained @getreadywithniks. Created with reapplication over makeup in mind, this mattefying mist actually keeps your makeup in place, in addition to protecting your skin from sun damage. What's more, this no-fuss spray blends in hydrating hyaluronic acid and antioxidant-rich rhodiola rosea for extra skin benefits. SPF Powders Like regular setting powder, SPF powders go on smoothly over foundation, blush, and bronzer, and can even keep makeup from shifting around throughout the day. Creator and dermatologist @denverskindoc recommended using "mineral powder sunscreen" because "you don't really see it" and is a great choice for people who don't like the texture of other SPF types. And while they admitted that "there aren't a lot of powdered sunscreens on the market yet," the powders below have won users' approval. Supergoop! (Re)setting 100 Percent Mineral Powder SPF 35 Supergoop BUY IT, $30 Another pick from this Internet-famous brand, the (Re)setting powder comes with a pop-up brush for easy application on the go. "I actually really like this one," creator @kylei.ann told viewers, adding that they use the powder to offset shine when their "skin gets greasy throughout the day." This lightweight formula is zinc-based and reviewers love how nonirritating it is. Ilia Radiant Translucent Powder SPF 20 Ilia BUY IT, $34 "It's talk-free, it's going to blur, it's going to set…awesome," said user @theadanbravo, who learned about this sheer powder from TikTok's resident SPF queen, @glamzilla. In addition to creating a smooth, crease-free texture, this zinc-based product also soothes and softens skin with a combination of aloe and rosemary extract. Was this page helpful?
