Royal Palms Resort and Spa

Phoenix, Arizona

There's something magical and relaxing about this part of Arizona, what with the desert landscape and stunning sunsets. The Royal Palms takes that feeling to another level. Backed up against the city's iconic Camelback Mountain, the Spanish colonial–style resort feels exclusive and secluded-in short, the ideal honeymoon spot. Besides kicking back in one of the plush rooms, the 10-room Alvadora Spa, or a cozy poolside cabana, you have some of the best hiking in the area just outside your back door, thanks to the property's proximity to 2,700-foot Camelback.

The Echo Canyon trail (on the other side of the mountain from the Royal Palms) takes about 90 minutes and will give your lower body a workout like no stair-climber has ever delivered. (But don't be surprised when you have to step to the side to let runners pass by you!) The steep trail makes the burn worthwhile with 360-degree views of the Valley of the Sun and the Sonoran Desert.

You can also take your new hubby on a run or hike through the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, which is northeast of Phoenix. There are a variety of five-mile treks with varying levels of inclines, as well as longer and shorter loops. Try the Taliesin Overlook via Lost Dog trailhead, an easy 4.5-mile trek that takes you to a spot with a view of architect Frank Lloyd Wright's famous winter home.
