Rihanna Specifically Designed Her Fenty Pieces to Help Curvy Women Feel Confident
She wanted to make sure her clothing line fits women with curves.
Rihanna has a solid track record when it comes to inclusivity. When Fenty Beauty debuted its foundation in 40 shades, and Savage x Fenty sent a diverse group of women down the runway, a ton of women felt seen.
Now, with her new luxury Fenty fashion line, Rihanna is continuing to champion inclusivity. At a pop-up for the collection in New York, the singer spoke with E! News about her experience working with LVMH and creating her new line. She said it was important to her to see the clothes on a variety of body types, including her own. "You know, we have our fit models, which is the standard size from factories, you just get your samples made in one size. But then, I want to see it on my body, I want to see it on a curvy girl with thighs and a little bit of booty and hips," she said during the interview. "And now I have boobs that I never had before...you know, I don't even know how to sleep sometimes, it's challenging, so imagine getting dressed. Rihanna previously told T Magazine that her "thicc journey" impacted Fenty's size range. "I'm thick and curvy right now, and so if I can't wear my own stuff then, I mean, that's not gonna work, right?" she said. "And my size is not the biggest size. It's actually closer to the smallest size we have: We go up to a [French size] 46." (BTW, a French size 46 is equivalent to a US 14.)
It shouldn't be surprising that someone working in women's clothing took boobs and butts into consideration, but here we are. Big thank you to Rihanna for realizing that women who want luxury clothes aren't all built like fit models.
