Two recent studies have shown thatthe compounds in ground ginger-thekind used in most gingerbread recipes-helpbattle two major types of cancer in women."The spice seems to inhibit breast cancer cellsfrom spreading," says Woo Kyung Kim, Ph.D., aprofessor at Eulji University in South Korea. Inanother study from the University of Michigan in AnnArbor, ground ginger caused ovarian cancer cells to attackthemselves and die. It's unknown exactly how much is neededto get disease-fighting benefits, but incorporating gingerinto everyday dishes, like cooked carrots, is a good start.
