Why Holly Rilinger *Literally* Jumps Out of Bed In the Morning

Holly Rilinger's answer when asked if she's a morning person? "I'm not really sure!'" The former professional basketball player, Nike master trainer, creative director at Cyc, and creator of LIFTED—a meditation-meets-HIIT workout—is somewhat of a walking contradiction.

"I LOVE to sleep in. But I also love to work out in the morning because it sets the pace for my whole day," she says. "So, I suppose I've made myself a morning person because the rest of my day hinges on it."

And trust us, despite being "deathly afraid of oversleeping," she's really got the whole morning thing all figured out. Below, she shares the Zen routine that gets her day going.

1. "First, I set two to three alarms because I'm deathly afraid of oversleeping. I always snooze on the first one and I make sure the alarm is a sound that gently wakes me up.  Right now my alarm is Coldplay's 'A Head Full of Dreams.'"

2. "The first thing I do when I open my eyes is grab my phone and see what I have going on. I mentally prepare myself for my day."

3. "I make a point of actually jumping out of bed. It's that energy that matters most. I then go straight to my kitchen and get my coffee started. I LIVE for coffee in the morning. My jam has been almond lattes but recently I've moved to a French press coffee with this amazing new almond milk creamer, nutpods. Life changing!"

4. "I sit on my sofa, cross my legs, and meditate for 10 minutes. This is the foundation of a good day for me."

5. "As I dig into my coffee, I typically have a light breakfast of berries, sometimes with grain-free granola and coconut milk yogurt.  I sit in front of my dream board, which takes up an entire wall of my apartment.  I like to come face to face with my dreams to make sure I'm living them."

6. "Next I pick out my two to three workout outfits for the day. This is important.  When I look good, I feel good.  When I feel good, I work out better. I load them into my gym bag along with all the other essentials for the day."

7. "Lastly, I look over my playlists and cue them up in my headphones for the journey to my first classes. I have to get myself pumped up to be able to motivate and inspire everyone else. There's something so exhilarating about taking the first steps each day into New York City. I feel the energy the moment I get outside. (Oh and don't worry, somewhere in there I brush my teeth and wash my face. Duh.)"
