Just like full moons have a rep for stirring up drama, you may have heard that new moons offer a unique opportunity to set intentions. The lunar phase occurs roughly every 29.5 days when the moon is positioned between the sun and the earth in such a way that it's shrouded from view. In astrology, the darkness that comes with this phase is thought to lend itself to self-reflection, meditation, visualization, which can, in turn, lead to intention-setting. A bit more detail for those who aren't total astrology nerds: Every sign gets their very own new moon during their astrological "season," or the month during which the sun moves through their sign. As we're currently in dynamic, impulsive, go-getter Aries season-which runs from March 21 to April 19-the new moon that falls on April 5 will be in the fire sign. It's also the first sign of the zodiac and is ruled by Mars, the planet of action and sex, which makes this new moon a powerful one for reflecting on and getting after your most romantic-and most X-rated-desires.

It also bears noting that new moons have a corresponding full moon that occurs six months later, so you might find it helpful to note the emotions, fantasies, and goals you're working on now, in order to check on progress in half a year. (The Aries full moon occurs on October 13.)

Here's how you can take advantage of this powerful astrological phase and ignite your sex and love life, based on your sign. (Insider tip: Read your rising sign/ascendant, if you know that, as well.)

Aries (March 21–April 19)

This new moon lights up your first house of self, bumping up your confidence and charisma and basically making you a magnet for admiration from those around you, including your S.O. or a potential partner. You might also feel stirred to get the ball rolling on a spiritual makeover, by making changes (like switching up your fitness routine or meditating more) that will have you feeling more consistently like your best self. Pinpointing new ways to practice self-love boost your attractive quotient, but, most importantly, elevates your #1 relationship: the one you have with yourself.

Taurus (April 20–May 20)

By activating your twelfth house of spirituality and the unconscious, this new moon can fuel your desire to rest, recharge, reflect, do some soul-searching, or dig deep with a therapist. Though new moons are a beneficial time for any sign to do activities like these, you may actually crave it, feeling like its integral to your emotional centeredness. What you learn can offer you even more self-awareness to strengthen your bond with your partner or lead you to someone you could truly fall for.

Gemini (May 21–June 20)

During the days around this new moon, which falls in your eleventh house of friendship, your calendar may be packed with parties, networking events, happy hours, and group dates-yes, even more than usual. You'll want to hit them all, even if you only make a quick appearance. Whenever you get a time-out, you may find yourself reflecting on the ways group outings benefit your existing or ideal partnership. Exploring more team-spirited activities-like running a fundraiser or playing a team sport-could set the stage to meet someone special or feel even closer to your partner. Cancer (June 21–July 22)

This new moon affects your tenth house of career, throwing the spotlight on your professional aspirations and public persona. You'll be setting your sights on the moves you feel you need to make to advance your career and earn recognition from the power players in your field. At the same time, feeling like your daily grind is taking a toll has you yearning for more work-life balance. Consider focusing on simple, easy ways to incorporate self-care into your routine. In turn, you'll feel more centered, rested, happy, and more psyched to connect with your partner or someone in your orbit who you may now be seeing in a new, romantic light.

Leo (July 23–August 22)

While the new moon lights up your ninth house of adventure, you'll be compelled to change up your typical dating and sex routine in a significant way-and fast. You may be looking at flights for a sexy weekend getaway or tempted to go on an impromptu date with an app match you just started chatting with. The wilder and more spontaneous the game plan, the more satisfying it may seem-at least, on the surface. But truly taking advantage of this moment means checking in with yourself and determining what you need. Being bold and moving at a lightning-fast pace may be the stuff of rom-com montages, but being more aware of and communicating whatever it is that excites and turns you on the most? That's the better bet for you now-plus it can have you feeling even more empowered in the coming months.

Virgo (August 23–September 22)

While the new moon activates your eighth house of transformation, intimate relationships, and sex, you'll be feeling more confident and impulsive than usual, especially when it comes to getting your desires met. You may even be zeroed in on a specific vision, like a particular scenario or fetish you want to try or a certain person you've been wanting to hook up with. Knowing what you want and asserting yourself feels even more amazing than usual now, but you'll do well to strive for fun exploration over perfection. What you discover about yourself can lead to fulfilling even more fantasies going forward.

Libra (September 23–October 22)

When communicating with your S.O. or a potential partner, you have a way of playing it coy. But while the new moon lights up your seventh house of partnership, you'll be more direct about what you need in a relationship and in the bedroom. You may even surprise yourself with how to-the-point you are-and how quickly you blurt out what you want. Take a step back from the situation to reflect on how it made you feel and you might find you're more comfortable than you thought. Own it, and you could be in store for plenty of fireworks. Scorpio (October 23–November 21)

This new moon, falling in your sixth house of health and routine, turns your focus to perfecting your fitness and healthy eating plan. You want to feel your best for a bevy of reasons, which include being at your most confident when you strip down and get intimate. You'll feel driven but may also suffer from impatience, wanting to see at least a glimmer of a result ASAP. The fix: Set your intention, activate your game plan, then do your best to let go. Feeling centered and boosting both your physical and emotional wellness can elevate all aspects of your life.

Sagittarius (November 22–December 21)

Lighting up your fifth house of romance and fun, the new moon fuels your desire to be and playful. You're usually fairly bold in your approach to romance, but now you'll feel even more fired up to enjoy an out-of-the-blue, whirlwind date night or go out dancing with your BFFs and flirt up a storm with strangers. This can have you wishing for more adrenaline-pumping, joy-packed moments like this, so consider ways you can infuse your partnership or a potential relationship with more fun and playfulness, which offers fulfillment in the months ahead. Capricorn (December 22–January 19)

This new moon affects your fourth house of home life, and you can't help you reflect on the relationships, routines, and traditions that offer you feelings of safety and security. You'll do well to meditate on how you can further invest in these aspects of your life. That could mean discussing moving in with your partner or going to a shelter to rescue an emotional support animal together. If you're single, devoting yourself to making your home even more of a sanctuary gives you a feeling of peace you'll naturally carry into your interactions with others. Taking your overall comfort to the next level now can do long-lasting wonders for both your heart and your bonds.

Aquarius (January 20–February 18)

You tend to lean into logic over emotion, but during this new moon phase, which falls in your third house of communication, you'll be more likely to share your feelings with your partner or a potential S.O. Having solid heart-to-heart conversations can serve to boost emotional intimacy-and may even inspire you to rip each other's clothes off. You could come away from the experience with a fresh perspective-and inspired to continue connecting in a more candid, off-the-cuff, and possibly vulnerable way. Pisces (February 19–March 20)

This new moon activates your second house of income, so you could be meditating on ways to take your current hustle to the next level. But the second house also oversees everything in the physical world and what we value, so you'll also be reflecting on what you want your life to look like in the coming months. You'll do well to discuss both financial and big picture relationship-related goals with your partner or a dear friend. The more direct and specific you can be about your priorities, the faster the track to manifestation.
