Diane, one our Best Blogger nominees sat down with SHAPE to talk about her weight-loss journey. Read more about her journey to get fit on her blog, Fit to the Finish.
1. What's the hardest thing about losing weight?
The hardest thing about losing 158 pounds was staying committed to the end of my journey. It was so much weight to lose, and it took well over a year. When I help people lose weight, I always encourage them to keep their eyes on their ultimate goal. We all want to quit from time to time during the weight loss journey, but if you quit, you will never get there.
2. Why is losing weight important?
I wanted to lose weight to look better, to stop getting stuck in chairs, to stop feeling exhausted all the time, and to improve my health before it was too late. As a 305 pound woman, I wasn't participating in life to its fullest. I was sitting down "resting" while my kids ran around, and I was too tired to do the things I wanted to do. Losing weight gave me the freedom to choose my own path, without letting my weight dictate my life path.
3. What is your ultimate healthy living goal?
That's a hard goal to define, as it changes over time. After I lost weight, I just enjoyed being more active and wearing smaller sized clothes. Now after maintaining for a long time, I want to continually learn more about healthy eating, be able to stay very physically active, and set an excellent example of healthy living for my seven kids.
