I had so much fun horseback riding the other day that I was inspired to try rock climbing. So I grabbed a group of adventurous friends and we headed to a climbing facility near the beach. We first learned how to put on our harnesses and belay another person (control the rope so the climber doesn't fall). The instructor made sure we were all capable of doing it well before we hit the wall: a giant four-story cave covered with a variety of grips and toe-holds. I learned that rock climbing isn't just a matter of strength-your balance and flexibility also come into play. My friends and I had a great time scaling the wall, and at the end of the day, we were all exhausted and exhilarated! Like horseback riding, rock climbing is an activity I never thought I could do-and never would have dreamed of trying-when I was heavier. The fact that I enjoyed it to boot, made reaching the top all the more thrilling.
