How to Perfectly Style Leggings for Thanksgiving Dinner
Unlike preparing for arguably the most important dinner of the year, getting dressed for the festivities that Thanksgiving brings should be a breeze. Not only should the perfect outfit look cute and family-friendly, but it should also be comfortable—especially if you plan to feast on, say, grandma's famous mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie. So, we sought out to find three outfits that can be paired with our favorite clothing item: leggings. (Yes, it is possible to dress up leggings for Thanksgiving dinner!) Read on to see what to buy from one of our favorite online stores, Nordstrom, to nail the look.
Look #1: Velvet Leggings
We all know that the outfit choice for Thanksgiving day is just as important as the menu (because obviously we have to get that perfect Instagram photo). Whether you're spending the holiday at home with friends and family or dining out at a fancy restaurant, we suggest staying comfortable without sacrificing style by dressing up a pair of leggings.
If your go-to black gym leggings just won't do, choose a dressier pair that's designed with a luxurious fabric like these velvet ones. Not only are they super soft and stretchy, but they're also designed with a slightly looser fit so you can stay comfy for hours (even after those second helpings). Pair the leggings with an oversized sweater (bonus points if it's a festive, fall color), over-the-knee boots that offer little-to-no heel, and a trendy backpack to hold essentials—just in case you decide to participate in some early Black Friday shopping.
Look #2: Active Leggings
It may or may not have been an entire year since you've seen your relatives, but either way, you'll want to dress to impress when getting together with someone you haven't seen in awhile. And what better way to do it than putting together a super stylish and comfortable look?
A velvet blazer makes an instant style statement and easily dresses up an outfit. Style it with a lace camisole that's made of a silky satin for some extra shine and a classic pair of leggings. Since Christmas is right around the corner, now's the time to treat yourself to a new pair of leggings that can also be worn to your weekly fitness class. Finish the look with gorgeous Marc Fisher ankle booties (that are under $200!), and choose from six different colors to best match your style—including a chic crocodile-embossed leather.
Look #3: Faux Leather Leggings
While most of us would love to show up in our comfiest pajamas for Thanksgiving, that's probably not ideal for one of the most important meals of the year. But, it's also not fitting to wear constricting skinny jeans or a tight dress that has absolutely no give. This chic and comfortable outfit will help you make it through a long day of catching up with family while enjoying amazing food.
For a sleek yet cozy look, dress in faux leather leggings that are designed in a four-way stretch material, and layer it with a turtleneck sweater dress. Slip on mules that come in buttery-soft leather for an easy on-off throughout your Thanksgiving adventures. Lastly, to spice things up, accessorize with a printed clutch from Madewell that's made of leather and calf hair.
