I've been battling a cold for a few days, and while in the past I would have used it as an excuse to lie around on the sofa, I don't want to ditch exercise completely. My trainer, Lauren Kern from Equinox, assured me that it's fine to exercise with a cold as long as I don't push myself too hard. And it doesn't have to be some boring routine-I can still do my regular run, just at a lower intensity (by either jogging at a slower pace or going a shorter distance). She cautioned that I should listen my body and rest for a day if I need it and stay hydrated. She also told me to eat an extra serving of carbs two to three hours before my workout to boost my energy. While it's no fun being sick, it's a relief to know that I won't fall behind on the fitness front too.
