The stress solution

As frustrating as it was to slip off my program last month, what was even more upsetting was the way my body hung onto those extra pounds I'd put on. My trainer, Lauren Kern from Equinox, told me that stress might be making it harder for me to lose weight, even though I've started dieting and working out regularly again. She said that when you're stressed, your body releases cortisol, a hormone that can, among other things, make you hold onto belly fat. My work life has been a bit chaotic recently, which was what caused me to fall off my healthy-living plan in the first place. So Lauren suggested I find little ways in the middle of my busy day to calm myself down, such as taking a hot shower, playing with my dog, or chilling out to a CD that I love—anything to take my mind off the mayhem. Since I've been doing everything else right, here's hoping this will help me see results again soon.
