With the coronavirus vaccination process starting to roll out around the globe, there could finally be a light at the end of the unfulfilled wanderlust tunnel. That said, re-opening plans vary by country, and there are many factors to take into account on both ends of a trip that could affect your own safety and the safety of those around you.

While that can be a lot to juggle and consider, Exodus Travels is taking the pressure out of it all by offering Dateless First Departures. Instead of monitoring the news and waiting for the proper protocols to go into place, the travel operator is allowing American and Canadian visitors to book select trips now without a departure date. “Designed to give would-be globetrotters something to look forward to (after all, studies show that half the fun of an adventure lies in anticipation), Dateless First Departures are all about finding a sense of calm in the zen gardens of Japan, roaming the rainforests of Costa Rica, and disappearing into ancient history on a tour of Vietnam — once it's safe to do so,” the company said in a statement last week.

To book a spot, travelers can choose from 20 pre-selected itineraries. Once the destination country reopens to North American visitors, the location also needs to pass Exodus’ five-stage Health and Safety Approval Process, which includes ensuring that COVID-19 infection rates are under control, restrictions don’t majorly affect the itinerary, and all local operators meet their requirements.

If it checks off all those requirements, travelers who have booked a Dateless First Departure will be guaranteed a spot on one of the first trips within the first month of travel. If that timing doesn’t work, the company will work on finding a new departure date that works for the traveler. (BTW, here's your guide to traveling alone during the pandemic.)

The VIP spots are available on select itineraries, including Exodus Travels’ Egypt Nile CruiseEssential PeruHighlights of MoroccoPortugal Walking and WineCycling in Jordan, and Tanzania Safari.

Those who snag a spot will also receive a virtual pre-trip briefing with destination experts, travel planning assistance, and around-the-clock support and safety assurances. Additionally, a professional photographer will document a day on the adventure, and the travelers will receive a “Return to Adventure” certificate.

In order to encourage bookings, Exodus is also offering a $300 per person deposit rebate to the first 100 people who book, which will come in the form of refunding the initial $300 deposit upon final payment. The price of the tour booked will be honored through Dec. 31, 2022.

The adventure tour company, which was founded 44 years ago, usually runs more than 600 itineraries to more than 100 countries and has always tried to encourage travelers to explore the planet, as it did with its contest last year to win 25 years of travel.
