As an internationally known supermodel with the all-American face and iconic beauty mark, Cindy Crawford has graced more than 1,000 magazine covers worldwide over the last three decades, including Vogue, Elle, W, Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, Allure, and Shape. Discovered by a local photographer while she was a student at DeKalb High School in Illinois, at age 17 the brunette bombshell was a finalist in Elite Model Management’s Look of the Year competition and still went on to graduate as valedictorian of her class. She then studied chemical engineering on scholarship to the prestigious Northwestern University before her modeling career completely took off, taking the stunning student to New York where she would eventually become one of the most famous faces in the industry.
From walking the runway for Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel, and Ralph Lauren to ad campaigns for virtually every fashion designer including Calvin Klein and Versace, Crawford was one of the first fashion models to pose for Playboy at the height of her career, collaborating with legendary photographer Herb Ritts to shoot the spread. Soon, television came calling when MTV hired her to host House of Style, a show that became a huge hit for her over the next six years. Since then, Crawford has parlayed her modeling success into being a successful entrepreneur with projects that include her own home-furnishings collection, exercise videos, a book on makeup, and a line of skin-care products, to name a few.
No question, Crawford is absolutely ageless, so how does she say in such supermodel shape—with two gorgeous kids, to boot? The mogul mommy, who has trained with longtime fitness pro Radu, is a fan of the power plate and loves to go hiking, biking, and running (whatever gets her outdoors!). She’s also realistic about fitting in a workout whenever she can, even if it’s just 10 minutes. “I think a lot of women have it in their heads that if they can’t commit to a whole hour at the gym, then it’s not worth the effort,” she told Shape. “But that’s not true!” As for diet, she says she strives to be “80 percent good, 80 percent of the time,” avoiding white carbs, sweets, and taking in lots of H2O. “Your body is so happy when you drink water. And it helps with a lot of cravings,” she says. —Kristen Aldridge
