Daisy Ridley Shares Her Struggle with Endometriosis
The Star Wars star opens up about her nearly decade-long battle with the painful disorder
Yesterday, Daisy Ridley took to Instagram to post an inspiring message about taking care of yourself. The 24-year-old opened up about her health, confessing to battling endometriosis since she was in her teens.
"At 15 I was diagnosed with endometriosis," she captions the photo. "One laparoscopy, many consultations and 8 years down the line, pain was back (more mild this time!) and my skin was THE WORST."
After trying several products and doing rounds of antibiotics, Ridley felt her body wasn't coping. It wasn't till she found out that she had polycystic ovaries that things started to get better. With some help from dermatologists and by cutting a lot of dairy and sugars out of her diet, the star slowly (but surely) started to feel more like herself.
"I can safely say feeling so self-conscious has left my confidence in tatters," she admits. And then, tells her millions of followers to take better care of themselves.
"My point is, to any of you who are suffering with anything, go to a doctor; pay for a specialist; get your hormones tested, get allergy testing; keep on top of how your body is feeling and don't worry about sounding like a hypochondriac," she says. "From your head to the tips of your toes we only have one body, let us all make sure ours is working in tip top condition."
Her words touched the hearts of many-especially her Facebook fans-many stepping up to share success stories of their own. Take a look.
