I know that weighing yourself once a week is enough to keep track of your progress, but when you've worked as hard as I have to slim down, it's hard to resist the temptation to step on the scale a lot more often. I do it in the morning, at night, before I work out, and again as soon as I finish. Unfortunately, this constant self-monitoring frequently backfires. Depending on a million different factors (like the time of day, my hormonal cycle, and how much sodium I've consumed), my weight can fluctuate by three or four pounds. So that I won't suffer the emotional highs and lows that go along with that, I've been trying to break my addiction. My new rule is I only weigh myself at the gym before my Friday sessions with my trainer. It's always the same time of the week and under similar conditions, so I get a more accurate picture of how I'm doing.
