I've always heard about the importance of replacing running shoes every few months to prevent injury, but I've never given much thought to the socks I put on before I lace up my sneakers. But Jeanine Detz, Shape's senior fitness editor, recently told me just how much of a boost the right pair can give me during my workout. You can even find socks especially made for specific sports. So since I run, I should buy ones that have extra cushioning in the ball of the foot, right where I strike the ground. And forget about basic cotton-seamless styles in a moisture-wicking fabric won't rub as much, helping to prevent blisters. I'm feeling the difference already.
