You've probably heard that drinking milk helps you drop a few pounds. Now researchers at Northern Illinois State University in DeKalb found the same is true for soy milk. When women followed a low-cal diet for eight weeks that included 3 cups of either light soy milk or skim milk, they lost about 8 ½ pounds, regardless of what type they drank. Soy milk is fortified with calcium and contains about 300 milligrams per cup, the same amount as cow's milk. "This study suggests that it may be the calcium, not milk per se, that helps with weight control," says researcher Judith Lukaszuk, Ph.D., R.D. Not yet a fan?
