This week I did my first round of fitness testing. It was at a place called LA Body Tech in Beverly Hills. The first thing I did was to figure out my resting metabolic rate. The results give you an idea of how many calories your body uses in a day without moving. From that you add in your regular activity levels and it gives you a rough idea of how many calories you need to eat to lose weight. For me, as long as I eat between 1,522 and 1,772 calories, I should drop pounds. (Check out Jackie Warner's jumpstart your diet plan. It's filled with tips for a 1,500 calorie a day diet.) I also did something called a vo2 max test, which measures your cardiovascular fitness level. I sat on a stationary bike and was hooked up to a facemask (it looked like a cross between a hospital oxygen mask and snorkel equipment), which measures how much oxygen I exhale during exercise. My results were pretty low, but I'm excited to improve it this year!
