Little ways you can cut calories without missing them

Dining out can be daunting when you're trying to follow a healthy eating plan. It's easy to get tempted by the delicious restaurant smells and overwhelmed by the never-ending options on the menu. But my nutritionist, Keri Gans, is a firm believer that you can eat out as often as you like and still maintain a healthy weight. The catch? You have to make smart decisions.

Sure enough, my friends and I went to an Italian restaurant this past weekend. Eager to make diet-friendly choices, I skipped the bread, dessert, and wine. Instead, I ordered a delicious salad made with baby arugula, cherry tomatoes, and shaved parmesan with lemon vinaigrette dressing. I asked for a side portion of pasta with broccoli and chicken in a garlic and olive oil sauce. The plate of noodles was so big that I ate half of it and put the leftovers in a doggy bag.

At the end of the meal, I felt satisfied instead of bloated and weighed down. But most importantly, I was able to enjoy tasty Italian food without feeling guilty!

Who's helping Yasmin? Tiara Coaching Life coach Alison Miller, Ph.D, nutritionist Keri Gans, R.D, and Equinox personal trainer Stephanie Pipia.
