How to Stay Motivated When You Don't Feel the Inside Feeling Matches the Outside View
Since about two weeks into my healthy eating regime I have been feeling great results on the INSIDE of my body. However, sometimes when I look in the mirror, I don't always see it. Here is what I have done to keep myself motivated in such times and give myself a more objective view of my success:
- Took a look at a picture that was taken just before I started my new and healthy lifestyle and compared it to a picture that was taken of me right then. The comparison of myself to myself was much more motivating than the comparison of myself to how I have decided "myself" should look.
- My husband took a page from the Biggest Loser and filled a bag with enough weights to match how much I had lost and made me lift it up. This really was an eye opener to me as I realized why my inside felt so good. No wonder I was so unhappy lugging around all that extra weight!
- Pulled out my winter clothing. I was shocked to find that my pants were falling off my waist; so much so that I had to give them away.
- Take my measurements once a month. I find this is MUCH more motivating than the scale.
I still have a long way to go but I celebrate my success almost everyday with positive mantras and little rewards (NOT food :)) Once I hit 230, I have decided to treat myself to a new pair of gym shoes...only 3 more lbs to go!
