I’m So Hungry (Part 1)
If you're like me, conquering your appetite is one of the biggest challenges you face when trying to lose weight. As soon as the word "diet" crosses my mind, I find myself craving all the junk I know I'm not supposed to eat. Luckily there are things I can nosh on that fill me up without filling me out. Here are two of my favorites (more to come tomorrow!):
Oatmeal: This hot cereal is high in fiber so it takes a long time to digest. I've noticed that when I eat oatmeal for breakfast, my appetite is lower at lunchtime. Steel-cut oats digest more slowly than the instant variety, so it's worth taking a few extra minutes in the morning to prepare your breakfast the old-fashioned way. I like to mix in some raisins, walnuts, cinnamon, and a splash of nonfat milk too.
Apples: Not only are apples nutritious, but they're really high in fiber, so they keep you full and give you energy. One medium apple with skin contains 4 grams of fiber, which is more than you'd get in an average slice of whole wheat bread. Here's a great way to incorporate them into your meal when you just don't feel like biting into a cold crisp apple.
