I am 31 years old with an amazing husband and wonderful friends and family. Recently, I checked out a scale (something I had been avoiding for some time) and realized that I was 270 lbs. This was just way too close to 300 for me and it was then that I realized that it was time to take control of my lifestyle. I knew that if I didn't begin a healthly lifestyle that I was going to end up like my father who suffers from congestive heart failure and diabetes. I value life too much to not make a serious effort for my own health. That was 14 days ago and now the scale reads 257 lbs! I am going to keep allowing it to drop without allowing myself to feel deprived. Here are the short-term challenges I have created for myself for now:

1. Eat six meals a day.2. Drink eight glasses of water a day.

3. Eat 1600 calories a day.

4. Do cardio, even if only for 10 minutes, every day.

5. Walk up the stairs to my 23rd floor apartment 3x per week.

So far, the 13 lbs that I have lost are from diet alone. I am interested to see how it works when I add in the exercise. I am hoping that the weight loss will slow down to 2-3 lbs per week as weight loss is only a side benefit of becoming healthy for me.

No one owns this but me and I am the only one who has the power to make or break my efforts. As long as I am aware of this, I think I will be able to make differences in my life!
